Uber Diary began with a quiet, unsettling realization. As technology promised connection, many of us felt more isolated. Beneath the endless stream of messages and content, the need remained the same: to be seen, to be heard, and to share what we carry. I started to wonder where people still speak honestly, without performance. For me, the answer appeared in the back seat of a car.

In the fall of 2019, just before the pandemic reshaped daily life, I began inviting passengers to write a few lines in a shared diary. What emerged was raw and unexpectedly intimate. Fragments of love and grief, hope and fear, exhaustion and resilience. These entries moved beyond gender, race, religion, and identity, revealing something universal in the way we struggle, survive, and search for meaning. As passengers read what others had written, many felt compelled to add their own story, turning a simple notebook into a living exchange of vulnerability and recognition.

This book gathers those handwritten pages as a time capsule of pre pandemic life. In response to each entry, I created a corresponding work of generative art using early GANs, before AI rapidly transformed our world. The result is a conversation between text and image, between lived experience and digital interpretation, offering another way to hold what was shared.

Uber Diary is an invitation to look closely at the inner worlds we often hide. It is meant to build mental health awareness, to honor the courage it takes to speak, and to remind us that we are more similar than we think. Thank you for your support, for spending time with these voices, and for helping this project hold space for connection in a time that has made it harder to find.

We all need to feel seen.
To feel heard, held deeply, and for our lives and struggles to have meaning. Deep meaning. The Uber Diary, is a portal into the human condition, a small window into the lives of others, mirroring our own hidden truths. Often, they are uncomfortable truths, sometimes they are beautiful truths.

For too long, many of us have hidden our pain. We deny the essence of who we are, for fear of annihilation. Maybe.

Our hopes and dreams, linger in the furthest reaches of our psyches too, hoping and praying that one day they will see the light of day. And that our magnificence will shine as brightly as the sun.

The sun.

Light. Shadow. All trapped in a sea of unconscious wilderness.
Until we meet someone, an uber driver maybe, who will not shame us for our truth. So, we speak, first gently, then loudly. Writing in a magical little book all the things we fear.

All the things we wish for. All the things we believed couldn’t stand contact with other humans. Beings, just like us.

And then, something truly magnificent happens. We become free. Even if it’s only for a little moment. Our shame, it subsides. Our magnificence finally breathes itself into existence. Reality shifts. Life, reclaims its rightful place at the very center of our being. We rise from the darkness of hiding. We all hide.

The Uber Diary reminds us that we don’t have to.

Much love,
